I had no idea why I felt this way. Was I not comfortable in their home? Eventually I figured it out: they had really cheap, poor quality stuff in their kitchen!
Their kitchenware was of the poorest quality you could imagine, just awful thin aluminum pans, cheap dull knives, etc. Not only was the cookware thin aluminum, it was dented and discolored and had loose handles. Not only were the knives cheap, they were dull and some of the so-called chef’s knives had loose blades.
In truth, pretty much their entire kitchen collection should have gone to the dump! I couldn’t cook any food there without it burning, the pots didn’t pour properly, the knives wouldn’t cut. You get the picture!
Contrast that to what I was used to at my parents home and then, when I equipped my own kitchen with heavy triple-ply stainless steel pots and pans, specifially with the Cuisinart Multiclad Pro line, in addition to well-crafted and sharp knives, handles that were firmly attached, utensils that felt solid in your hands. It was an amazing contrast.
